Debt recovery in the UAE
We recover debts arising from contracts, promissory notes, cheques and unpaid invoices: from a pre-trial demand letter through to freezing the debtor's accounts and enforcement proceedings.
When clients come to us
- a counterparty has not paid for work performed or goods supplied
- a partner has not repaid a loan, and there is a contract or correspondence
- a cheque issued to you has bounced
- the debtor has stopped responding or has left the UAE
- there is a court ruling, but the money is not coming through
What we do
- assess the prospects and gather the evidence base
- prepare and send a pre-trial demand letter with a calculation of the amount
- file a claim in the competent court and provide representation
- apply for interim measures: freezing the debtor's accounts and assets
- carry out enforcement proceedings after the ruling
- where grounds exist, file a police complaint over a bounced cheque
How the work proceeds
- Assessment. We review the contract, correspondence and payment documents, assess the prospects, and calculate the full amount of the claim with interest.
- Demand letter. We send a formal demand. In a significant share of cases the debt is repaid at this stage — it is cheaper and faster than going to court.
- Claim. We file a claim in court and simultaneously apply for interim measures, so the debtor cannot move assets out of reach.
- Enforcement. After the ruling, we open enforcement proceedings: deduction from accounts, seizure of assets, and a travel ban on the debtor.
Documents required
- contract or promissory note
- invoices, acts, and bills
- correspondence with the debtor
- payment documents
- copies of cheques, if any

Коротко о главном
Yes. A UAE court ruling allows restrictions to be placed on entry and exit, and local accounts and assets to be frozen. Recovery abroad will require recognition of the ruling in the relevant jurisdiction.
The first instance usually takes from three to six months. For undisputed monetary claims, an expedited procedure may be available.
A cheque is strong evidence and a separate basis for a claim. Since 2022, the primary mechanism for cheques has been civil enforcement, but criminal liability still applies in certain categories of cases.
The court awards compensation for court costs, but usually not in full. The court fee is calculated as a percentage of the claim amount.
