Family law in the UAE
Family disputes in the UAE are resolved under the personal law of the parties: you are entitled to choose to apply the law of your country of citizenship instead of local law. Whether this is declared at the start of proceedings affects both the division of property and decisions on children.
Since 2022, non-Muslims in the UAE have had a separate procedure for family matters: divorce by mutual consent, equal parental rights by default, and the option to apply the law of the country of citizenship. But the provision only works when it is invoked correctly and in time.

Yes, provided at least one spouse resides in the UAE. The marriage certificate will need to be legalised and translated. The UAE court's ruling is then recognised in Russia through the established procedure.
For non-Muslims, a presumption of joint custody applies: both parents retain equal rights. The court is guided by the best interests of the child, not the parent's gender.
If the visa was obtained through a spouse, it will need to be reissued — there is usually a grace period. We arrange an alternative basis in advance so there is no gap without status.
